I cannot view the images I stored in an external hard disk drive on PlayMemories Home.
This article pertains to models that are compatible with PlayMemories Home or PMB. For details, refer to the instruction manual and other documentation for your device.
Make sure the following conditions do not apply.
- If Not connected drive is displayed
- If a hard disk drive is recognized in Camera and media
If Not connected drive is displayed
Not connected drive appears if the external hard disk drive for which you have registered a folder is not connected to your computer.
Connect the external hard disk drive to the USB jack of your computer so that Windows can recognize it.
You may need to turn on the power or perform other required operations depending on the external hard disk drive.
When the external hard disk drive is recognized successfully, Not connected drive will disappear and a thumbnail will appear.
Refer to the following FAQ to execute the settings initialization tool if you have disposed of the external hard disk drive or cannot connect it to the camera anymore for other reasons, or if you cannot solve the problem by following the above connection procedure.

If a hard disk drive is recognized in Camera and media
If folders with the following names exist on the hard disk drive, they may be recognized as Camera and media.
- AVCHD
- DCIM
- MP_ROOT
- PRIVATE
- MSSONY
IMPORTANT: Folders with the names shown above exist on the external hard disk drive used for Direct Copy.
It is recommended that you prepare an external hard disk drive to use as the PlayMemories Home data import destination that is separate from the one used for Direct Copy, to prevent data or the management information in the camera from being deleted or overwritten unintentionally.
If the external hard disk drive used for Direct Copy is connected to the computer,
PlayMemories Home regards the external hard disk drive as the same device as the camera. This allows you to directly play or upload images saved on the camera or a memory card to network services without importing them to the computer (Camera Direct function).
You can also create a disk using the Camera Direct function, etc.
If connecting an external hard disk drive that is not used for Direct Copy, follow the procedure below to try to solve the problem.
- Visit the following website to update PlayMemories Home to the latest version.
https://www.sony.net/pm - From the File menu, open Add Folders to register a folder for the external hard disk drive.
- Restart PlayMemories Home and check that it appears properly.
