Checking/changing C (Custom) button functions
By default, the C1 button (Custom button 1) is assigned to Background Defocus, but you can assign a different function.
To check which function is currently assigned, select MENU → (Setup) → Operation Customize → Custom Key/Dial Set. and then Custom Key/Dial Set. or Custom Key Setting.
To change the function of custom button C1 or C2, press the center of the control wheel while that button is selected. Select a function after the functions available for that button are displayed.
You can use the C1 button on a GP-VPT2BT shooting grip (sold separately) as you would use the C1 button on the camera, so your assigned function can also be controlled from the grip.
For shooting grip details, see the following page.
Using an optional shooting grip
The Background Defocus mode locks the aperture value and displays an icon ( for Defocus or for Clear) instead of an aperture value.
Set to (Defocus) to blur the background.
Set to (Clear) to keep the background in focus.
The camera returns to the normal shooting mode and the aperture returns to the former value when you press the MENU button. For details, see the following page.
