How to enable the Hyper-V feature in the computer.

    The Hyper-V® virtualization technology is built into some versions of the Windows® 8.1 operating system, but needs to be enabled before it can be used.

    IMPORTANT:

    • The Windows 8 Pro (or higher) version operating system is required to use the Hyper-V feature.
    • The Hyper-V feature will only work if the processor supports it. Otherwise, a message will appear stating that the feature is not supported.

    Follow the steps below to enable and use the Hyper-V feature.

    1. Confirm that the processor shipped with the computer supports the Intel® Virtualization Technology feature.
    2. Access the BIOS and enable the Intel® Virtualization Technology feature .
    3. Exit from BIOS and allow the computer to start into Windows normally.
    4. Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Settings charm.

      NOTE:  The Windows Logo + I key combination will also take you to the Settings screen.

    5. In the Settings screen, in the lower-right corner, click Change PC settings.

    6. In the PC Settings screen, click Update and recovery.
    7. In the Update and recovery screen, click Recovery.
    8. In the Recovery screen, under Advanced start-up, click the Restart now button.
    9. In the Choose an option screen, click Turn off your PC.
    10. Once the computer has been completely off for at least 5 seconds, press the power button once to turn on the computer.
    11. Once the computer as completely started into Windows, point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search charm.

      NOTE:  The Windows Logo + W key combination will also take you to the Search screen.

    12. In the Search screen, in the Search field, type Turn Windows features on or off and then press the Enter key.
    13. In the Windows Features screen, click to place a check in the box next to Hyper V, and then click the OK button.
