The USB HDD or USB memory that was used with the Android TV™ or Google TV™ cannot be recognized on the Windows PC or other devices.
When a USB storage/USB HDD is registered on an Android TV or Google TV, that USB storage device will only be usable with the TV.
To use the USB storage device with other devices, follow these steps to format it with the TV.
USB storage/USB HDD that was formatted as a Device storage for Android TV or Google TV:

Backup the app

- Select System — Storage — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from DEVICE STORAGE — Erase & format as removable storage. (Android™ 10)
- Select Device Preferences — Storage — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from Device storage — Erase & format as removable storage. (Android 9)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from Device storage — Erase & format as removable storage. (Android 8.0, Android 7.0)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from Device storage — Erase & format. (Android 6.0)
- Select Back up apps.
- Select Migrate data to different storage or the app to back up.
- Select Internal storage or Internal shared storage.

- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from Device storage — Erase & format as removable storage — Format. (Android 8.0, Android 7.0)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from Device storage — Erase & format — Format. (Android 6.0)
NOTE:This action will format the USB storage/USB HDD in FAT32 file system. When dealing with videos larger than 4GB, please format the USB storage/USB HDD to NTFS or exFAT file system on a Windows PC.
USB HDD that was registered for video recording (Applicable for Australia and New Zealand only):
NOTE: Android TV or Google TV models released in 2018 or later are not compatible for USB HDD recording.
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss when following these steps. Once the USB HDD is unregistered, when registering it again, all recorded content will disappear. Also when the formatting is performed, all saved data will be deleted.

Unregister the USB HDD used for video recording

- Select System — Storage — Select the connected USB storage/USB HDD from HDD FOR RECORDING — HDD deregistration. (Android 10)
- Select Device Preferences — Storage — Select the connected USB HDD from HDD Recording — HDD deregistration. (Android 9)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB HDD from HDD Recording — HDD deregistration. (Android 8.0, Android 7.0)
- Select Recording device setup — HDD deregistration — Select the connected USB HDD. (Android 6.0)
- Select Yes.
- Select Yes again when the confirming screen appears.

Register the USB HDD as a device storage of the Android TV or Google TV.
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Do not select "Move now". If you select "Move now", the contents saved in the TV's internal storage will be moved to the USB HDD and the USB HDD will be formatted.

- Select Device Preferences — Storage — Select the connected USB HDD from Removable storage — Erase & format as device storage. (Android 9)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB HDD from Removable storage — Erase & format as device storage. (Android 8.0, Android 7.0)
- Select Storage & reset — Select the connected USB HDD from Removable storage — Format as device storage. (Android 6.0)
- Select Format.
- Select OK.
- Select Move later.
