Using
Custom Data Rescue of
VAIO Data Restore Tool.
Even if Windows has not been started，users can also use
VAIO Data Restore Tool to back up data.
The following are the two ways to rescue data.
- Normal data rescue
Rescues all data on the internal hard disk drive, and save it to a single external hard disk drive.
- Custom data rescue
Rescues only the files users specify and save it to hard disk drive, flash media, blu-ray disc, DVD, or CD.

Different versions have different interfaces displayed but the operating steps are the same. |
- Use recovery discs, F10 or F8 to start VAIO Recovery Utility (or VAIO Recovery Center).
- Please perform the operations below according to different preinstalled software.
- VAIO Recovery Utility
Click VAIO Data Restore Tool.
- VAIO Recovery Center
Click VAIO Data Restore Tool on the left，and then click Start on the right.
- Click Next in VAIO Data Restore Tool.
Remark
If the last time users perform VAIO Data Restore Tool, the mission is half completed, select Continue the process cancelled，and then click Next.
- Select I agree and then click Next in Sony End User License Agreement.
- Confirm the displayed Protective steps，disclaimer，and then click Next.
- Select Custom data rescue，and then click Next in Select How to Rescue Data.
- Select Hard disk drive (Recommended), Flash media (or Hard disk drive (Recommended))，and then click Next in Save in.
Remark
If flash media mentioned above does not display due to different versions of Data Restore Tool, select Hard disk drive (Recommended) and users can save the data to flash media.
- Select the disk where to save data, and then click Next in Hard disk drive (Recommended), Flash media，(or Hard disk drive (Recommended)).
Note
If users only have Local Disk C in the VAIO notebook, then users cannot select the saving location of the internal hard disk drive.
Reference information
If users want to increase the hard disk space of the saving location, select the Save in location, and then click Delete Unnecessary Files.
Delete the unnecessary files.
- Click Next in Confirm Save folder.
Reference information
The folder name is the date of automatic operation. Change the folder name，and then click Change folder name….
Change the folder name in Change folder name.
- Select the hard disk drive, and then click Next in Specify Drive to Rescue.
- It automatically detects the rescue data.
- Select the data to back up, and then click Next in Specify Data to Rescue.
Remark
The following dialog box will display if the data users have selected is larger than the capacity of the saving location.
- Click Start in Writing Data.
- Writing data starts.
- Click OK when writing the rescue data is complete.
- Confirm data rescue, and then click Next in Data rescue is complete.
- Click Back.
Remark
To back up other files, please click Continue to rescue，and then go back to step 7. to perform operations.

Note
- To rescue the data in mobile hard disk drive, CD, or DVD, please connect the disk drive, CD, or DVD to the computer before starting Data Rescue Tool.
- To save rescued data to CD or DVD, please use the formatted new CD or DVD.

- It automatically detects the rescue data.
- Select the data to back up, and then click Next in Specify Data to Rescue.
- Select the hard disk drive to use, and then click Next in Specify Disc.
- Click Start in Writing Data.
- Writing data starts.
- If the computer needs to read and write several discs, the following dialog box will display after the first one has completed. Click Next.
- Click OK when writing the rescue data is complete.
- Confirm data rescue, and then click Next in Data rescue is complete.
- Click Back.
Remark
To back up other files, please click Continue to rescue，and then go back to step 7. to perform operations.
