What is the procedure to restore the system of Windows® Me?
Note:
When user use the System Restore function, it may sometimes become impossible to use the drivers and applications that have installed.
User should note that System Restore may forced to re-set the drivers and reinstall the applications.
The use of the System Restore function may sometimes make the system unstable and erase data. This is due to the loss of compliancy of the information in the hard disk drive. Do back up all important data before trying to restore the system.
* Sony is not responsible for failures such as the loss of data when user use the System Restore function.
When user use the System Restore function, the OpenMG Jukebox data base may be disabled depending on the restore point. To prevent this symptom, please back up the data with using OpenMG Jukebox Backup Tool.
When user use the System Restore function, it can restore the settings and performance by cancelling inadequate changes that made onto the computer. The computer restores to the state at a specific point called Restore Point.
Restoring the system will not damage or erase saved documents, e-mails, the history and pages in Favorites.
The computer also creates the restore point automatically called System Check Point.
Users can also create restore points.
To restore the system, user can perform the following procedure:
* To restore the computer to its previous state
Procedure to restore the system of Windows® Me:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, Accessories, System Tools and click System Restore.
2. When the Welcome to System Restore window appears, click Restore my computer to an earlier time option button and click Next.
* When user use System Restore for the first time, there is below two options to choose.
Restore my computer to an earlier time
Create a restore point
3. When the Choose a Restore Point window appears, click an available restore point from the calendar in the window and click Next.
The available restore points in the calendar are displayed in bold.
* Types of available restore points
- System checkpoint: The restore point that the computer creates in accordance with the schedule
- Manual restore point: The restore point that is created by users
- Install restore point: The restore point created automatically at the time of installation of a specific program
4. The Before restarting your computer, save and close all open files and close all open programs. window appears. Click OK
5. When the Confirm Restore Point Selection window appears, check the date and type of the restore point and click Next.
6. When the Restoration in Progress window appears, the restoration of the system is underway.
7. The computer is automatically restarted and the Restoration Complete window appears. Click OK.
The system restoration is completed by now.
Below are the procedures to create a restore point:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, Accessories, System Tools and click System Restore
2. When the Welcome to System Restore window appears, click Create a restore point option button and click Next.
3. When the Create a restore point window appears, type any letter user like in the Restore Point Description text box and click Next.
4. The Confirm a New Restore Point window appears.
Check the date of the new restore point and click OK.
The new restore point is created.
Below are the procedures to undo the last restoration:
1. Click Start point to Programs, Accessories, System Tools and click System Restore
2. When the Welcome to System Restore window appears, click Undo my last restoration option button and click Next.
3. The Before restoring your computer, save and close all open files and close all open programs. window appears. Click OK.
4. When the Confirm Restoration Undo window appears, check the date and type of the restore point, and click Next.
5. The Undoing last Restoration window appears and system restore is carried out.
6. The computer is automatically restarted and the Undo Complete window appears.
System restore is complete through the above procedure.
Requirements of System Restore
To execute the System Restore function, a free space of at least 200MB on the hard disk drive (on the partition where system folders of Windows® are stored) is required.
Protection of personal files
To protect users' work files such as documents and spreadsheets, the system restore does not restore the files in the My Documents folder.
System Restore does not restore files with file names such as *.doc or *.xls that are generally used in the programs either.
Storage location of the restore point of System Restore
The restore point of the System Restore function is usually stored in the C:\_RESTORE folder.
The above folder is set to non-display at the factory shipment.
It can be displayed by clicking the Show hidden files and folders option button and checking the Hide protected operating system files box.
