Enabling vibration and sound on keypress
The device vibrates and a sound is heard when you enter text.
Android 10 or higher (with Gboard keyboard)
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- From the home screen, find and tap Settings → System → Languages & input (or Keyboard) → On-screen keyboard → Gboard.
- Find and Tap Preferences.
- Find and Tap Sound on keypress to toggle ON or OFF.
- Find and Tap Haptic feedback on keypress to toggle ON or OFF.
Note! You can also tap Use the Android default vibration if overall device vibration is enabled.
Android 8.0 or 9.0 (with SwiftKey keyboard)
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- From the home screen, find and tap Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → SwiftKey Keyboard.
- Tap Typing → Sound & Vibration.
- Tap Keypress vibration to enable, then drag the slider to set the vibration intensity.
- Tap Keypress sound volume to enable, then drag the slider to set the volume.
Note! You can also tap Use the Android default vibration if overall device vibration is enabled.
Android 7 or lower:
Android 7.0 (with SwiftKey keyboard)
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- From the home screen, find and tap Settings → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → SwiftKey Keyboard.
- Tap Typing → Sound & Vibration.
- Tap the Keypress vibration switch to enable, then drag the slider to set the vibration intensity.
- Tap the Keypress sound volume switch to enable, then drag the slider to set the volume.
Note! You can also tap the Use the Android default vibration switch if overall device vibration is enabled.
Android 6.0 (with SwiftKey keyboard)
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- From the home screen, find and tap Settings → Languages & input → SwiftKey Keyboard.
- Tap Typing → Sound & Vibration.
- Tap the Keypress vibration checkbox to enable, then drag the slider to set the vibration intensity.
- Tap the Keypress sound volume checkboxto enable, then drag the slider to set the volume.
Note! You can also tap the Use the Android default vibration checkbox if overall device vibration is enabled.

Android 7.0
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- Find and tap Settings → Language & input → Virtual keyboard.
- Tap Xperia keyboard.
- Tap Keypress feedback.
- Drag the slider beside Vibration on keypress to the right.
- Tap Vibration intensity and drag the slider to set vibration intensity.
- To enable sound, drag the slider beside Sound on keypress to the right.
Android 6.0
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- Find and tap Settings → Language & input.
- Tap Xperia keyboard.
- Tap Keypress feedback.
- Drag the slider beside Vibration on keypress to the right.
- Tap Vibration intensity and drag the slider to set vibration intensity.
- To enable sound, drag the slider beside Sound on keypress to the right.
Android 5.1
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- Find and tap Settings → Language & input.
- Tap Xperia keyboard.
- Tap Sound and vibration.
- Drag the slider beside Vibration on keypress to the right.
- You can tap Vibration intensity and drag the slider to set the intensity.
- To enable sound, drag the slider beside Sound on keypress to the right.
Android 5.0
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- Find and tap Settings → Language & input.
- Tap Xperia keyboard.
- Tap Sound and vibration.
- Mark or unmark the Vibration on keypress checkbox.
- You can tap Vibration intensity and drag the slider to set the intensity.
- Mark or unmark the Sound on keypress checkbox.
Android 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4
To set the screen to vibrate on keypress when entering text
- Find and tap Settings → Language & input.
- Tap the settings icon next to Xperia keyboard.
- Tap Sound and vibration.
- Mark or unmark the Vibration on keypress checkbox.
- Mark or unmark the Sound on keypress checkbox.
Enabling vibration
The device vibrates when you tap soft keys and certain applications.
Android 13 or 14
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound / Sound & Vibration → Vibration & haptics.
- Drag the sliders next to Touch feedback to the right.
Android 9.0, 10, 11 or 12
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound → Advanced.
- Find and tap Touch vibration.
Android 8.0
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound → Advanced.
- Drag the slider next to Vibrate on tap to the right.
Android 7 or lower:
Android 7.0
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound → Other sounds.
- Drag the slider next to Vibrate on tap to the right.
Android 5.0, 5.1 or 6.0
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound & notification → Other sounds.
- Drag the slider next to Vibrate on touch to the right.
Android 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4
To set the screen to vibrate
- Find and tap Settings → Sound.
- Mark or unmark the Vibrate on touch checkbox.
Enabling touch sounds
Android 10 or 11 or 12
To enable touch sounds
- Find and tap Settings → Sound → Advanced.
- Find and tap Dialpad tones and Touch sounds.
Android 8.0 or 9.0
To enable touch sounds
- Find and tap Settings → Sound → Advanced.
- Drag the sliders next to Dialpad tones and Touch sounds to the right.
Android 7 or lower:
Android 5.0, 5.1, 6.0 or 7.0
To enable touch sounds
- Find and tap Settings → Sound & notification / Sound → Other sounds.
- Drag the sliders next to Dialpad tones and Touch sounds to the right.
Android 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4
To enable touch sounds
- Find and tap Settings → Sound.
- Mark or unmark the Dial pad touch tones and Touch sound checkboxes.
