    Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.
    Sony is offering a system software update for Digital 4K Video Camera Recorder FDR-AX100 / FDR-AX100E.

    Improvements:
    In addition to SDXC card, the camera records XAVCS format video with SDHC card.

    • When shooting movies in XAVC S format, it requires SD Speed Class10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or faster. (When recording in 100 Mbps or more, UHS Speed Class U3 is required.)
    • When an SDHC memory card is used to record XAVC S movies over extended periods of time, the recorded movies will be divided into files of 4 GB. The divided files can be integrated into a single file using PlayMemories Home.

    Benefits provided from previous updates includes:

    • XAVC S 4K 100Mbps addition
    • Capture still picture from video contents shot by XAVC S
      (Only available for FDR-AX100)
    • Trimming playback improvement
    • Auto focus performance improvement
    • Focus tracking performance to the person

    How to check the System Software version

    1. Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version on the camera.
    2. The System Software version is displayed. If the Version is version 3.10, this upgrade is not required.

    Preparing for System Software update

    System requirements for a computer

      • CPU: Intel processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported)
      • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
      • RAM: 512MB or more

    Other Items

    • Power source for the camera
      Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or AC adaptor AC-L200.

      Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor.

    • USB support cable supplied with the camera
      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Details

    Important Notes:

    • Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
    • Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.
    • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or the AC adaptor AC-L200.
    • Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Download the update file
      Click on the file Update_FDRAX100V310.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

    2. Start Software Updater
      1. Do not connect the camera yet at this point. Double-click Update_FDRAX100V310.dmg to start up Software Updater.
      2. Double-click the Update_FDRAX100V310.dmg icon which appears on the Desktop.
      3. Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
      4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
      5. System Software Updater starts up.
    3. Check the USB connection mode
      1. Turn on the camera.
      2. According to the Firmware Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > Connection > USB Connect Setting on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.
    4. Connect the camera to the computer
      Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
      1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable and turn on the power of the camera.
        Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.

        If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
        1. Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
        2. If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
      2. Click Next on Firmware Updater. The below screen appears on Firmware Updater, and the LCD screen of the camera.

        Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the system software update is completed.
    5. Check if update is required
      1. Click Next, then the current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.

      2. After confirming Current version is Ver.3.00 or earlier, click Next.
        Note: If Current version is Ver. 3.10, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor and then turn on the camera.

    6. Reset the camera
      1. The following screen appears.
      2. Press OK on the panel.

        Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.

      3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

    7. Start the update
      After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the below screen appears.

      Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes)
      Note: Do not turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.

    8. Complete the update
      When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Recovering data. Please wait... may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.

    9. Check the System Software version
      Follow the instruction below to confirm the system software version is Ver.3.10.

      Select Menu > Setup > General Settings > Version on the camera. The system software version is displayed.
