I cannot update the camera system software (Firmware).

If the camera system software (firmware) cannot be updated, check the following.

When the update will not start:

    Check the check items below.

    • Make sure you follow the steps mentioned on the download or software article.
    • Make sure to download the correct file for your camera, since some models/firmware downloads have different requirements. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
    • Make sure that there is sufficient battery power or that the camera is properly connected to the AC Adaptor.
Note: The update will not start if the remaining battery level is below 3 ().
    • Make sure that the camera is connected to the computer using the supplied USB cable in the Mass Storage mode:
      1. Remove the USB cable from the computer.
      2. Turn on the camera and ensure the USB Connect setting in the camera menu is set to Mass Storage.
      3. While the camera is turned on, connect it to the computer with the USB cable and open the download file again.
      4. If your computer has multiple USB ports, retry Steps 1-3 with a different USB port.
    • Make sure that the downloaded file is the right one for the camera and the computer.
      Notes:
      • Download files differ by camera. The update will not start if the download file does not match the camera model.
      • There are different download files for Windows (file extension .exe) and Mac (file extension .dmg).

When you are using a Mac:

Depending on the camera, you may need to run other software on your Mac computer before connecting the camera via USB. For details, refer to the camera firmware update page. Try updating again after running the other software.

When the update cannot be completed (the camera screen goes black and there is no response for at least 15 minutes, etc.):

Try updating again by performing the following steps:

    1. Remove the USB cable from the computer.
    2. Remove the battery pack and reinsert it after several minutes.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Turn on the camera and ensure the USB Connect setting in the camera menu is set to Mass Storage.
    5. While the camera is turned on, connect it to the computer with the USB cable and open the download file again.
