Troubleshoot a wireless network connection using the Wi-Fi Checker application.

    The Wi-Fi Checker application is a valuable and convenient tool for diagnosing issues with the Wi-Fi® configuration on your tablet, the settings on your wireless router or access point, and your Internet connection. If a problem is detected, the Wi-Fi checker application will suggest possible solutions.

    1. On the desktop, tap the Home icon.
       
    2. In the upper-right corner of the desktop home screen, tap the Apps icon.

    3. In the Apps screen, tap the Wi-Fi checker icon.

    4. In the Wi-Fi checker screen, tap Test.

      At this point, the Wi-Fi checker application test proceeds through the following 5 steps, each testing or displaying a different component set in the connection process.

      IMPORTANT: If a problem is detected at any point in the testing process, a Connection failed message will be displayed. If a Connection failed message is displayed, tap OK, follow all the suggested troubleshooting steps displayed at the bottom of the test screen, and then tap Test (step 4) to begin the test again.

      • Wi-Fi Setting - This test will verify that the built-in Wi-Fi® adapter is enabled and then test the configuration settings used to connect to the wireless router or access point.
        • If the connection failed because the built-in Wi-Fi adapter is disabled, in the Troubleshooting section, tap to check the box next to Wi-Fi to enable the built-in Wi-Fi adapter.

      • Wi-Fi connection - This test will make the first attempt at a Wi-Fi connection. If this test fails, follow the suggested solutions in the Troubleshooting section.
        • Verify you are within range of the wireless router or access point. Move the tablet closer to the access point or away from devices that may cause interference, such as a cordless telephone.
        • Tap Wi-Fi settings , tap on the target wireless router or access point, tap Forget and then set up the connection again.
        • Verify the network cable between your wireless router or access point and your cable or DSL modem is secure and connected to the correct network ports.
        • Reset your wireless router or access point and your cable or DSL modem by removing and reconnecting the AC power source.
        • Try connecting to a different wireless router or access point.

          NOTE: Once the connection to the wireless router or access point is established, the SSID , BSSID , Security and Link Speed are displayed.
        • The SSID, or Service Set Id entifier, is the name broadcast by the wireless router or access point.
        • The BSSID, or Basic Service Set Identifier, is the MAC address of the wireless router or access point in an infrastructure network.
        • Security shows the wireless security type configured on the wireless router or access point. Popular types are WEP, WPA and WPA2.
        • The Link speed is the data transfer rate between the tablet and the wireless router or access point. The Link speed varies depending on the Wi-Fi standard, signal strength and other factors.
      • IP setting - This step displays the information gathered from the wireless router or access point.
        • The IP setting method determines how the IP address of the tablet is assigned.
        • The DHCP server is usually the IP address of the wireless router.
        • The IP address is the address assigned to the tablet.

      • Gateway/DNS - This test obtains the Gateway/DNS settings from the wireless router or access point. If this test fails, then there is a problem with the your wireless router or your cable or DSL modem. Follow the suggested solutions in the Troubleshooting section.
        • Check the cable connections of your Wi-Fi router and your cable or DSL modem.
        • Reset your Wi-Fi router and your cable or DSL modem by disconnecting and reconnecting their AC adapters.
        • Specify a different access point in the Wi-Fi settings.

          IMPORTANT: If the connection issue is not resolved by following the suggested solutions, you may have to contact your Internet Service Provider to verify you Internet connection is working properly.

      • Test server - This will test the status of the connection to the test web site and complete the test.
        IMPORTANT: The Wi-Fi checker application test is complete and the network connection verified when all the sections are green.
        NOTE: Once the connection to the Internet is established, the following information will be displayed.
        • The Internet gateway is usually the IP address of the wireless router.
        • The DNS server, or Domain Name Server, is used to resolve the IP address of a web site and are usually automatically obtained from your Internet service provider.
        • The Test Server is the web site that the Wi-Fi Checker application uses to access and verify an active Internet connection.
        • If you are connecting to a hotspot or public access point, the hotspot or public access point may require that you log in before you can access the Internet. Tap the browser to open the web browser and check for a login page.
