Preparation
Check the firmware version
Your firmware may already be up to date. If the version number is M23.R.0221 or higher, you do not need to update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Home Theatre System is connected.
- Power on the Home Theatre System.
- Press the "HOME" button and wait until the Xross Media Bar™ menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
- Use the arrow keys on the Remote Control to select "Setup" – "System Settings", and then press the ENTER button.
- Use the arrow keys to select "System Information", and then press the ENTER button.
- The firmware version currently installed on the Home Theatre System will be listed on the television screen.
- Software Version M23.R.0221 — if the version number is M23.R.0221 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.
Important notice
- If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware upgrade is needed for your Home Theatre System
- WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the Home Theatre System to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Home Theatre System or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the Home Theatre System to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- Recommended operating system for the computer that will download the firmware upgrade:
Windows® 10, Windows® 8.1, Windows® 8, Windows® 7 is recommended. - In order to perform the firmware upgrade, it is necessary to have the system correctly connected to a compatible television.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
Download & Install
Update via USB Memory Device and your PC
You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your HT-IV300.
Download and save into USB memory Instructions
- Download the UPDATA_M23R0221.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the UPDATA_M23R0221.zip file is 109,616,625 bytes.
- Right-click the UPDATA_M23R0221.zip file, and click "Properties".
- On the "UPDATA_M23R0221.zip Properties" screen, verify that the "Size:" listed is "104 MB (109,616,625 bytes)".
Note: The "Size on disk:" listed may be different. That is normal. - If the file size is different than the "109,616,625 bytes", please download the UPDATA_M23R0221.zip file again.
- Double-click the UPDATA_M23R0221.zip file. Then, extract the zip file.
- The extracted files will be named "MSB23-FW.BIN”,“MSB23-FW.ID”, " MSB23-FW_MB.BIN” and “MSB23-FW_MB.ID”
- Save the decompressed files (4 files) to the root directory of USB, the folder name should be “UPDATE”.
Version Upgrade Instructions
The instructions below are for how to install the firmware upgrade using USB Memory.
Firmware upgrade Instructions
WARNING!! Do not power off the system or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Doing so may damage the system to the point of requiring repair.WARNING!! Do not press any buttons, except as instructed, until the upgrade is complete. Doing so may damage the system to the point of requiring repair.
Note: The firmware upgrade process takes a minimum of 10 minutes.
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Home Theatre System is connected.
- Power on the Home Theatre System
- At the Xross Media Bar™ menu, use the arrow keys on the Remote Control to select "Setup”- "System Settings", and then press the ENTER button.
- Use the arrow keys to select "Quick Start Mode" and make sure that the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "Off".
Note: If the "Quick Start Mode" is set to "On", change the setting to "Off". Otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed. - Insert USB that contain the 4 image files.
- At the Xcross Media Bar™ menu, use the arrow keys on the Remote Control to select “Setup” – “Software Update” and the press the ENTER button.
- The message, [“Update files found in the USB memory. Do you want to update the software? Current version M23.R.xxxx New version M23.R.0221. Do not turn off the power or remove the USB memory during the update.”] is displayed on the television. Press OK to start updates the firmware.
- While the upgrade is installed the message "UPDATE" is displayed on the front panel display.
- The firmware upgrade is complete when "DONE" appears on the front panel display. Then, the system is turned off automatically.
WARNING!! Do not operate or power off the system until this message is displayed. Doing so may result in your system being unresponsive and requiring repair. - Power on the unit and check the current firmware version to confirm that the upgrade has successfully installed.
Note: If the last four digits of the version number are 0221, the firmware upgrade was successful.
Check the Current Firmware Version
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Home Theatre System is connected.
- Power on the Home Theatre System.
- Press the "HOME" button and wait until the Xross Media Bar™ menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
- Use the arrow keys on the Remote Control to select "Setup" – "System Settings", and then press the ENTER button.
- Use the arrow keys to select "System Information", and then press the ENTER button.
- The firmware version currently installed on the Home Theatre System will be listed on the television screen.
- Software Version M23.R.0221
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your HT-IV300 firmware using your PC and USB Memory.
- "UPDT" and "ERROR" are displayed alternately on the front panel display.
- Turn off the system and disconnect the AC power cord.
- Turn on the power of the HT-IV300.
- Try the Update via USB Memory procedure.
- The power went off while the update was in progress
Power on the HT-IV300 and follow the Update via USB Memory Procedure again. - The UPDATA_M23R0221.zip update file I downloaded from the update website cannot be extracted.
Did you download the file successfully? Try to delete the file and download it again. - The update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished
- Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes
- Turn on the HT-IV300
- Try the update procedure again
