  Note: Do not use a USB storage device formatted other than FAT32.

Preparation

Check the firmware version

Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new Speaker system. If the version number corresponds to the following, you do not need to perform the update.

• If the version is 1.xxx, 1.388 or higher
• If the version is 2.xxx, 2.078 or higher

If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

1. Turn on this unit and make sure that it is in a normal start-up state.
2. Connect a wireless amplifier to the unit.
   Note: Please refer to the Operating Instructions for information on connecting a wireless amplifier to this unit. (A different software version will be displayed depending on whether the wireless amplifier is connected or not)
3. On the remote control, press MENU → , select SYSTEM, and press ENTER.
4. On the remote control, press repeatedly to select VERSION and press ENTER.
5. The unit version information is displayed by scrolling.
6. Check the software version. (If the software version is not the latest, a software update is required.) If the version number is 1.388 or 2.078 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Important Notice

• Read the instructions carefully, or you may damage your speaker system.
• Do not turn off the speaker system or disconnect it from the power while updating.
• Do not press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
• Do not unplug the power cable during the update. Doing so may cause damage and require repairs.
• Do not perform any operation until the update is complete.

The software is updated using a USB storage device. For details, please see the following procedure.
Note: Do not remove the power cable during the update. Doing so may cause damage to your unit, which may then require repairs.

Download & Install

If your computer can be connected to the Internet and to a USB storage device, you can use the computer to perform the update according to the steps below.

Step 1: Use the computer to transfer the updated software file to the USB storage device

1. Click the Download button, read and agree to the terms and conditions, then click the Download button. The download will start.
2. Save the file on the computer desktop or any location without changing the file name.
3. Find the file on your computer, right-click it and click Properties. If the size is 7.56 MB ( 7 933 039 bytes) then the download is completed successfully.
   Note: If the size is other than the 7.56 MB ( 7 933 039 bytes), the download may have failed. Delete the file from the USB drive and download it again.
4. Double-click the downloaded file and select Extract all, and then select Extract without changing the folder name.
5. When the extract is completed, a HT-S40R_Update folder will be created. Make sure that the 21EC1_A.BIN, 21EC1_M.BIN, 21EC1_R.BIN, 21EC1_T.BIN, 22EC1_A.BIN, 22EC1_M.BIN, 22EC1_R.BIN, and 22EC1_T.BIN files exist in that folder.
6. Insert the USB storage device into the USB port of your computer.
7. Drag and drop the downloaded 21EC1_A.BIN, 21EC1_M.BIN, 21EC1_R.BIN, 21EC1_T.BIN, 22EC1_A.BIN, 22EC1_M.BIN, 22EC1_R.BIN, and 22EC1_T.BIN files directly to the root of the USB storage device.
   Note: If you do not save the 21EC1_A.BIN, 21EC1_M.BIN, 21EC1_R.BIN, 21EC1_T.BIN, 22EC1_A.BIN, 22EC1_M.BIN, 22EC1_R.BIN, and 22EC1_T.BIN files to the root of the USB storage device without any other files, the update may fail.
8. Confirm that the 21EC1_A.BIN, 21EC1_M.BIN, 21EC1_R.BIN, 21EC1_T.BIN, 22EC1_A.BIN, 22EC1_M.BIN, 22EC1_R.BIN, and 22EC1_T.BIN files exist in the root of the USB storage device. Once confirmed, transferring of the update file is completed and you can proceed to Step 2: Update the software of this unit.

Step 2: Update the software of this unit

1. Connect the speaker system power cable.
2. On the speaker system or remote control, push the (Power) and wait until the panel display indicates the previous input.
   
3. Check whether a wireless amplifier is connected.
   Note: If a wireless amplifier is not connected, connect it. If needed, refer to the Operating Instructions about how to connect the wireless amplifier.
4. Insert the USB storage device containing the software update into the wireless amplifier
5. On the remote control, press MENU → , select UPDATE, and press ENTER.
6. Select START and then press the ENTER button.
7. The update process will start and the panel display will appear:
   
   Notes:
   • Do not unplug the power cable during the update. Doing so may cause damage and require repairs.
   • Do not perform any operation until the update is complete.
8. When UD100 is displayed, the speaker system will restart automatically, and the update process is completed. After the reboot is completed, DONE will be displayed.
   Note: The time needed to complete the update is about 3-10 minutes.
9. Be sure to check that the software version has been updated to the latest version by referring to the procedure Check the firmware version. If the correct version is not displayed, please check the version again after performing Initialize once. If you perform Initialize, the Bluetooth pairing information will also be deleted, so please perform pairing again. Depending on the connected device, it may be necessary to delete the Bluetooth device information on the connected device side and then re-pair. Also, the connection with the Wireless amplifier may be disconnected. In that case, check the contents of Connecting the Wireless amplifier manually in the instruction manual, and then connect.

Initialization method

1. Press MENU. SPEAKER appears in the front panel display.
2. Press / to select RESET, then press ENTER.
3. Press / to select ALL RESET, then press ENTER.
4. Press / to select START, then press ENTER. All the settings return to their initial status.

Note: If you cannot perform a reset using the Setting menu, press and hold (Power) and - (volume) on the subwoofer for more than 5 seconds. The settings return to their initial status. Please check the instruction manual for details.
