Preparation

Check the firmware version

If the version is displayed 2500 or equal, or more than 2600 but equal or less than 3300, we strongly recommend updating the firmware. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of the firmware you currently have:

  1. Turn on the speaker.
  2. Launch the Sony | Music Center application.
  3. Connect your speaker to the Sony | Music Center application.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Select System.
  6. Confirm the firmware version (the first 4 digits in the red box).

Important Notice

  • DO NOT perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent, such as:
    • on a train or in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested
    • near a microwave, cordless phone, or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves
  • Make sure both devices (Android or iOS device and speakers) are fully charged.
  • Make sure that your unit is connected to a power outlet via the AC adapter before starting the update.
  • Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smart watches from your Android or iOS device before starting the update.

Before you upgrade

  • Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • For Android devices, the update process will take approximately 3 minutes to complete.
    The file size is about 1.63 MB for SRS-XP700 and approx. 1.62 MB for SRS-XP500/SRS-XG500.
    For iOS devices, the update process will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
    The file size is about 1.63 MB for SRS-XP700 and approx. 1.62 MB for SRS-XP500/SRS-XG500.
  • Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android or iOS device, it may take longer to complete.
  • To update these speakers, follow the procedure below.
    • Download data from the server to the iOS device or the Android device.
    • Transfer data from the iOS device or the Android device to the speakers.
    • Execute the update with the speakers.

Download & Install

To update these speakers, follow the procedure below:

  1. Download data from the server to the iOS device or the Android device.
  2. Transfer data from the iOS device or the Android device to the speakers.
  3. Execute the update with the speakers.

Step 1: Install the update

  1. Connect to a power supply outlet.
    • Connect the supplied AC adapter to the speaker's DC IN 5 V port and an AC outlet.
      Note: The software update cannot be performed when using battery power only.
  2. Turn on the speaker.
  3. Launch the Sony | Music Center application.
  4. Connect your speaker to the Sony | Music Center application.
  5. The following screen will be shown when the connection has been established.

  6. If an update is applicable, Update the software of the speaker. will be displayed and you can press More Info.
  7. The first 4 digits are the version. Verify that Version 5700 (For version 2500 before the update) or Version 7600 (For versions 2600 and above and 3300 and below before the update) is displayed and press OK to start the update.
  8. Once the download starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the download is completed.
  9. Once the transfer starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the transfer has been completed.
    Note: Do not turn off your speakers while downloading updates, transferring data, or updating, otherwise, the speakers may become unusable. When the software update is completed, press OK.
  10. If the screen is not displayed, check whether the version has been upgraded in the following step.
  11. The speaker automatically turns off when the software update ends.

Step 2: Check the update was successful

After the update, confirm that the new version has been installed successfully by following the Check the firmware version section steps.
If the firmware version shown is 5700 (For version 2500 before the update) or 7600 (For versions 2600 and above and 3300 and below before the update), the upgrade was successful.

Questions & Answers

An update error message appears.

  1. Press OK.
  2. Restart (turn the power off then on) the speaker.
  3. After that, restart Sony | Music Center and update again

Even though the update failed during the process, check the firmware version. If the Version is shown as 5700 (For version 2500 before the update) or 7600 (For versions 2600 and above and 3300 and below before the update), the firmware update was successful. If not, try the firmware update again. You can check the Version from the setting in the Sony | Music Center application.
