What you need to know to protect your TV when lightning is predicted.

About lightning and damage

When there is stormy weather with lightning, accidents such as an electric shock or TV damage can occur. This is called a direct stroke. When lightning strikes around the area generate voltage, we call it an indirect stroke. These abnormal voltages and electric currents may be transmitted to the TV through an outlet or antenna wire and destroy the inside of the TV.

When thunder begins to sound

Lightning strikes are known to apply very high voltage and large current flows. Since there is a risk of electric shocks, do not touch antenna cables or power plugs once thunder begins to sound.

When lightning strikes are predicted

1. Turn off the TV then disconnect the power cord (mains lead).
   • If you are recording to the external USB hard disk (HDD), stop the recording beforehand.
   • While the power cord (mains lead) is disconnected, the program guide will not update.
2. Disconnect all the cables connected outside of the TV such as the antenna cable, HDMI cable, and LAN cable.
3. After lightning subsides, connect the power cord (mains lead), antenna cable, HDMI cable, and LAN cable as before.

When you can’t turn on the television after lightning

When you can't turn on the television or the picture is not displayed after lightning, the TV may have stopped working temporarily.

Follow the steps below to unplug the power cord (mains lead) from the outlet and restart the TV after a while to check if it works correctly again.

1. Turn off the TV.
2. Unplug the power cord (mains lead) of the TV from the outlet.
3. After about one hour passes, insert the power cord (mains lead) to the outlet.
4. Turn on the TV.

If the issue is still unresolved, the product may need to be repaired.
