Preparation
Check the Firmware Version
If the firmware version is 2.3.1 you do not need to perform the update. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which firmware version you have:
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your headset to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Press the three dots (Menu button) in the upper right corner.
Note: The connected headset will appear on the screen. - Select the headset version shown in the Menu. This will only be shown when the headset is connected to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Confirm the firmware version.
Important Notice
- Do not charge the battery or turn off your headset while downloading updates, transferring data, or updating the firmware. Doing so may cause the headset to become unusable.
- Do not perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent or congested, such as on a train or near a microwave, cordless phone, or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves.
- Make sure both devices (Android/iPhone and the headset) are fully charged.
- Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smartwatches from your Android device/iPhone before starting the update.
- When updating the firmware after removing your headset, go to the Auto Power Off function of the Sony | Sound Connect app, and select Do not turn off.
- If you select Off when headphones are removed, your headset will automatically turn off after approximately 15 minutes and the data transfer of the update file will be interrupted.
- If that happens, the next time your headset turns on and Bluetooth is reconnected, the data transfer will resume. If you change the settings for this update, you can restore the settings after the update is completed.
Before You Upgrade
- Please update to the latest version of the Sony | Sound Connect app (Ver. 11.0.0 or later).
- Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
- If you use an Android device, the update process will take approximately 40 minutes to complete.
- If you use an iPhone, the update process will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
- Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android device or iPhone, the update process may take longer to complete.
Download & Install
To update the headset, follow the procedure below:
- Download the data from the server to the Android device or iPhone.
- Transfer the data from the Android device or iPhone to the headset.
- Complete the update using the headset.
Step 1: Install the Update
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your headset to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- If you have never connected to the Sony | Sound Connect app before, follow the on-screen instructions to set up a connection.
- If you have connected to the Sony | Sound Connect app before, select your headset from the available options.
- The following screen will be shown when the connection has been established. If an update is applicable, the message The latest audio device software is available will be displayed. Make sure the headset is connected.
- If an update is applicable, Update the audio device software will be displayed, and you can press MORE INFO.
- Verify that 2.3.1is displayed and press START to start the update.
- Once the download starts, the screen will automatically move to the next one after the download is completed.
- The transfer starts. It will automatically move to the next screen after the download has been completed.
- Once the transfer starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the transfer has been completed. This will take approximately one minute.
Note: Do not charge the battery or turn off your headset while downloading updates, transferring data, or updating the firmware. Doing so may cause the headset to become unusable. If a disconnection message is displayed, wait until the headset automatically reconnect. - When the software update is completed, press OK.
Note: If the screen is not displayed, check whether the version has been upgraded in the following step.
Step 2: Check That Update Was Successful
After the update, confirm the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps in the Check the firmware version section. If the firmware version shown is 2.3.1, the upgrade was successful.

What Should I Do If an Update Error Message Appears?
- Press OK.
- Restart the headset (turn off, then turn on again).
- After that, restart Sony | Sound Connect app and try the update again.
Even though the update failed during the process, check the firmware version to confirm. If the version shown is 2.3.1, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the update again. For details, check the firmware version from the Sony | Sound Connect app settings or go to the Check the Firmware Version section on this page.
