Counterfeit Memory Stick FAQ

Since the features of the counterfeit products are changing frequently, we are unable to list all of them. Instead, we advise our customers to only buy genuine Memory Stick products from Sony authorized dealers.

We recommend our customers to purchase the genuine Memory Stick at our Sony authorized dealers.

If you purchased the Memory Stick at one of our Sony authorized dealers, it is genuine.

If you purchased at one of our Sony authorized dealers, it is genuine.

Sony does not provide any service on the counterfeit products, and we are not able to exchange the counterfeit for the genuine Memory Stick. If the product you have purchased is counterfeit, please contact the shop or the retailer from where you purchased, and consult with them on your product.

Since the features of the counterfeit products are changing frequently, we are unable to list the differences between the genuine Memory Stick and the counterfeit product. As such, we advise our customers to only buy genuine Memory Stick products from Sony authorized dealers.

It is difficult to determine the counterfeits by visual inspection on the appearance of the package and on the product, since most of the counterfeits have similar appearance as that of genuine ones. We would like to recommend our customers to purchase the Memory Stick at our Sony authorized dealers.

If the product you purchased malfunctions and you suspect it to be counterfeit, we advise you to inform Sony and to send the product and the proof of purchase to your local Sony Support. We can then determine* whether the product is a counterfeit or not and let you know.

Customers may experience the following symptoms:
-Shortage of usable capacity.
-No recognition of the Memory Stick by the host equipment.
-All the recorded data, pictures and so forth has disappeared.
-Unable to transfer the data file with MagicGate (the function of Copy Right Protection) into the Memory Stick counterfeit.
