Measures against water damage for the WF-1000X
"Water damage" is one of the main reasons for damage of the WF-1000X. If moisture or water enters the inside of the product, the internal components may short-circuit and the headset and charging case may corrode. Also, depending on how you handle the headset, it may become wet without you noticing, which may lead to damage.
Check the following so that you can use the WF-1000X for a long time.

Precautions
Observe the following points in order to protect your device from water damage.
- Do not operate with wet hands.
- Do not leave the device in a highly humid location for a long time.
- Avoid using the headset in the bathroom or other environments where it may get wet.
Important Note There are many cases where the headset is left in a pocket and washed causing it to be submerged in water. When water or other liquids are the reason for damage, the product warranty becomes inapplicable. In such cases, repair will incur a cost, even if within the warranty period. |
Cases in which water damage occurs
- Rain or other water drops seep into the headset from the space
- A drink is spilled onto the headset or the headset is dropped into water causing it to become submerged
- Condensation occurs inside the headset due to sweat, humidity, or other factors
- Rain or other water drops seep into the headset from the space
Even though unintentional, the following reasons are factors that may cause the headset to become wet.
- Operating the headset in the rain and rainwater splashes onto it.
- After washing your hands or working with water in the kitchen, operating the headset without thoroughly wiping the water from your hands.
Even the slightest amount of water can enter the inside of the device from the smallest space through what is called capillary action. Also, water left on the metal terminals can cause rust, which may result in damage.
What is capillary action?
Capillary action is a phenomenon where liquid moves along thin, hair-like spaces by the force of the surface tension of the liquid. An example of capillary action can be seen by standing two sticks together and applying water at the tip of the sticks. The water will travel up the space between the sticks. If liquid attaches to a small space such as the seams of the device, it may enter the inside of the device through capillary action and result in unintended damage.
Locations where water may enter the device

[B]: Exterior seams
[C]: Terminals
[D]: Spaces around the buttons - Operating the headset in the rain and rainwater splashes onto it.
- A drink is spilled onto the headset or the headset is dropped into water causing it to become submerged, and the water may enter inside the headset.
- Inadvertently spilling your drink.
- Leaving the device in your pocket and wash your clothes.
- Dropping the device into water when placing it near a sink, bath, toilet, water tank, or other containers of water.
If water or other liquid enters the headset, it may be damaged. Immediately stop using the device, turn off the power, and consult your Sony Service Center.
- Inadvertently spilling your drink.
- Condensation occurs inside the headset due to sweat, humidity, or other factors causing it to become wet unexpectedly.
- Placing the headset in the shirt pocket of clothing you have perspired in.
- Entering a heated room from outside where it is cold. Or, exiting a well-cooled room to outside where it is hot.
- Placing a cooled plastic bottle into your bag along with your device.
- Leaving the device in the bathroom or other environment with high humidity for a long time.
Repeated slight moistening due to water drops or moisture forming inside the device will cause the internal parts to corrode over time. Avoid using or leaving the device in environments subject to drastic changes in temperature or high humidity.
Also, if condensation occurs, leave the power of the device off until it is fully dry. - Placing the headset in the shirt pocket of clothing you have perspired in.
Examples of corrosion
- Corrosion of the terminals
The headset terminals corrode and blue colored rust (copper rust) forms.
- Corrosion of the charging case
The headset terminals are placed in the charging case while wet and blue colored rust (copper rust) forms.
